The Project
Process Pipework
Scope of work:
Whelan Refining Limited recycles waste oil to produce base oils from its plant in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire. It is currently the only facility of its kind in the UK
Richard Alan was asked to design, manufacture and install over 2Kms of pipework from newly installed storage tanks to production areas within the site.
The project included laser scanning of the area to aid in the design of the delivery system from the storage tanks into the production area. The scan allowed the Richard Alan design team to drop pipework blocks into the scan to ensure the pipe runs fitted within the confines of the designated areas.
As Richard Alan champion design for assemby (Dfma) off site, the piperuns where broken down into manageable sections, then fabricated at our manufacturing facility, ready to simply connect each pipe run together to complete the system; therefore considerably reducing the time on the client’s site.
Included in this project was a number of structural steelwork equipment to support the pipework, including 2 large bridges as well as access platforms and removable walkways to allow access to valves etc for manitenance.
